WHAT IS CONDITIONAL SENTENCES?
A conditional sentence is a complex sentence that is in the condition of a presupposition, whether hypothetical, something that has not happened or an imaginative scenario. The assumptions in conditional sentences may come true or may not come true. Conditional Sentences must have two clauses, its if-clause which contains the presupposition and the main clause which contains the consequences of the presupposition. The position is not always if-clause + main clause; it can also be main clause + if-clause.

WHEN CONDITIONAL SENTENCES USED?
Conditional sentences are usually used for presuppositions, hypotheses, expressing possibilities, or predictions of the consequences of an event or things.

THE TYPE OF CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
  1. Conditional Sentences Type 0
In this type, conditional sentences are used for things that are certain to happen if they are done, example:

  • If you don’t press the power button, the laptop will not turn on. (if clause + main clause)
The butter will melt, if you heat it. (main clause + if clause)

  1. Conditional Sentences Type 1
In this type, conditional sentences are used to express assumptions or very large possibilities that will happen if they do it, example:

  • If I save consistently, I can buy a new smartphone next month. (if clause + main clause)
I'll have a stomachache if I don't eat lunch. (main clause + if clause)

  1. Conditional Sentences Type 2
In this type of conditional sentence, it can be seen if the sentence expresses a presumption that is very unlikely to happen or does not match reality, example:

  • If I had a lot of money, I would go to LANY's concert (if clause + main clause)
I would go to the beach every day, if I lived in Bali (main clause + if clause)

  1. Conditional Sentences Type 3
In this type of conditional sentence, it is used for presuppositions but it will not happen because it has happened in the past so the reality cannot be changed, example:

  • If I hadn't woken up late, I wouldn't have missed the bus. (if clause + main clause)
I can eat now, if I hadn't forgotten my lunch at home. (main clause + if clause)
